Installing the washing machine

I completely fail at DIY. But I've decided to hook up my own washing machine, considering from first glance it appears to be a case of, Blue pipe screws onto the Blue ringed copper pipe, Red pipe screws onto the red ringed copper pipe.

Einstein at work there right?

What's confusing me is the waste pipe. I had a google and it says the grey waste pipe coming from my washing machine just slots into the waste pipe on the wall. Now the waste pipe on the wall is wider than the one coming from the washing machine,and its also cut at an angle like a piece of bamboo. Is it really just a case of slotting the smaller pipe inside that? As this to me seems unfinished and prone to leaking. The waste pipe on the wall is vertical with the open end at the top, so i guess as long as my washing machine doesn't expel waste too fast it should be fine, But it just doesn't seem right to me. lol

Any help?

Yep you got it! it just slides in make sure its in far enough so it wont pop out.

Im guessing yours is like the bottom one in this link? just have a quick read and you will be fine.

Would be worth taking time to make sure the machine is stable, usually the fromt two feet are adjustable. If it's wobbly you'll get unnecessary noise & movementl when it's spinning fast.

The last method shown with the waste pipe fitting into the top of the open vertical waste is absolutely spot on and the best way to connect the machine, [As noted by varial] but make sure there is a trap on the bottom as shown in the diagram. Do not try to seal the gap where the machine waste pipe fits into the much wider plastic wall pipe, it's important to keep the air gap.

Cheers fellas, Definitely has the trap at the bottom so should be fine,and i'll make sure its stable too, as I know all too well how an unstable washer sounds lol

about the making sure its stable, if its not it might reduce the spin rate (mine does) which means it doesnt spin dry near the end of the cycle as well and youll have soaking wet clothes as aposed to damp ones

if the clothes come out wet then the washer is not level or the load is not even. so the antivibration cuts in and will keep rotating each way trying to sort it out but if not the cycle will finish with the clothes sopping wet.

when inserting the waste pipe fit the half moon pipe clip to keep the pipe in shape as it bends in to the waste pipe to stop it creasing and stopping / reducing the pump out flow rate. and dont push the pipe in to far keep it out of the u bend at the bottom.
