Installing this ?

OEM = tied to the motherboard

You need RETAIL to install it on more than one PC (can only use it on one at a time)

1 Licence - 1 PC

If you want 2 PCs - 2 Licences.

If you replace your motherboard, that's fine. Just re-activate it. But 1 licence can only ever be in use on one machine.

It is very simple.

Yes it is very simple , You're right....just like when I asked Ocuk , Can I use this one more than one PC ..as I have 3 PCs to put windows onto ? I get told " yes you can use it on multiple Machines ..thats fine sir "

Indeed it is simple, you can phone Microsoft to get it reactivated.

As far as I'm aware they're not required to with OEM licences, but they can and will do if you tell them the hardware has changed. That said, if you're going to be putting Windows onto 3 computers, you need 3 seperate licences, either OEM or Retail, but if you upgrade frequently you should opt for the Retail licence.

Or you could just get the Family Pack, if you can find one, would be a lot cheaper me thinks.

after so many uses/ reactivations etc or updates on different hardware and ip's, the key in the end will be blocked, M/S counts each time it's used and it's stored, they know when it was first used, and each time it's activated, easy to get caught out, and loose a bought and paid for key.

Family Pack or corp, as both don't get checked so many times.

many will disagree and say they have done it many times, work in a shop i'll tell you how many have come in and said it no longer works, and even a phone call won't get it working again if used too many times either :)

enjoy and be legal, makes sense in the long run

Retail you can change hardware and move it to a new pc, oem stays with the pc it was bought with and can't be re used, if you read the small print that is....

yes :)...but when i got it i did say i wanted it to install it on two pcs straight away , and those pcs could and most likely would be running at the same time here n there on a day to day basis

maybe i'll have to put it down to experience lol

You can, but only one at a time.I have Win7 Ultimate and can only use it one PC at any given time.

The OP has linked to the OEM version of Windows 7. That can only ever be used on one PC. After it's been activated there, it is tied to that PC and cannot be transferred.

Then you need two separate keys, no matter whether you've got an OEM or retail license. As said above, if you want to install on more than one PC simultaneously, then you should have got the family pack.

You were either told the wrong information, or you got your wires crossed as they may has assumed you meant use the disc on multiple PCs (which is possible) rather than the licence key, which is tied to the machine (depending on whether it is OEM or Retail it is either permanent or transferable). The only keys you can use on multiple PCs at the same time are Volume Licence Keys, which cost a lot more and can be orderred directly from Microsoft.

No wires were crossed :)....I asked twice!!

Is it going to be a similar situation when I try to buy Microsoft Office too ?

Just checked the license terms for my copy of Office 2010 Pro Academic. It says the exact same as the retail version of Office Professional. First computer install is the licensed device and the second install can only be used by the primary user of the licensed device.

I don`t use it, but found this whilst doing a quick search. It seems you can install it on your main PC and a laptop( secondary machine)but only for your use. Hope this helps.
