Ok, basicaly I want to install Ubuntu 9.10 server edition onto a Dell Poweredge 2600. I do all the necessary things change boot sequence etc. However when I put the disk in it says 'No Boot device detected' and won't install it. The disk does work as I tried it on my own PC. When I put in the Dell Open Mange Assistant that runs with no problems. The only problem is when selecting the Server OS the option isn't there for the Ubuntu 9.10. All the other OS you need to pay for and enter a product code. Has any one got any help with installing Ubuntu 9.10 onto the Poweredge 2600? Thanks in advance!

No. I tried to put in a Vista disk and a XP OS disk both came up with the same message as the Ubuntu disk. However the Dell Open Manage Server Assistant comes up fine when you set the boot sequence with CD-ROM as the primary boot device.

Could i be right in thinking that your CD-ROM drive doesnt recognise CD-RW or CD-R

or are you trying to write this to a DVD?

I'm writing this to a DVD. The Dell open manage server is on a CD-R though in saying that. Is it possible that my optical drive doesn't support DVD?

Yes i think that is your problem

The ubuntu images are usually for CD-R or RW aswell unless you burn the DVD version.

But i would say that is most likely the reason.

No

but i have noticed in the past depending on the hardware some servers will install from dvd and some wont, im not sure the reason.

But just to save the hassle i always burn to CD

I'll try to burn the ISO onto a CD then see if that makes any difference. Just for my clarity there is no reason why it shouldn't install any OS you put onto it is there?
