Installing Vista Home x64 Premium Problem

you dont have a memory stick or external hd plugged in?, if not delete the x drive when installing, it could be like i said in my first post

Only things plugged in are montor + mouse/keyboard.

Try using different cables if you have them spare, a different optical drive or using different ports on the mobo if there's any spare.

Just trying a re-install using different SATA cables and SATA ports on the mobo. Unfortunatly, I haven't got a spare optical drive to test with. I'm using an Asus Lightscriber, brand new (as with everything in the build) puchased a week a go.

Hopefully it will work this time.

Thanks for your help guys, I really hope I can get this working or my investment in a high end rig will be worthless :(

the only other thing i could add would be that any time ive had trouble with the vista install and had to re-install it would be to not only format the partition again but to delete the partition/format then re-install (and in your case delete all partitions)

Ok, I'm at the "Where do you want to install windows?" screen. Just to double check, I've deleted all partitions (there was only one created anyway, which was the size of the disk.) So now it shows as:

Disk 0: Unallocated Space

Do I go ahead and just click the HD and install? Or am I doing something wrong?

Many thanks

from memory you only have to format the hd then continue with the install

Failed again :(

Perhaps this might help debug the problem. When it installing, the 1st step (copying the files) take 30 seconds, the second (unpacking) take about 10 mins. The installing features take 1 second and the last two steps take around 7-10 mins.

It seems strange that the features install part would be so quick.

Seems its working now :)

Must have been the raptor, darn thing! Its just completing the installation now. Just wanted to say thanks for your help :)

Now the next hurdle, I purchased the raptor so I could run the OS as fast as possible. How would I go about installing it on the Raptor and using the bigger drive as storage?

Thanks for the link. There doesn't seem to be a fix about, there are reports of many users having problems and a few having successful setups with these drives. I'll dig about and see what I can find.
