I'm having difficulties installing Vista on the following build: (this is Vista ready I would assume...)

Gigabyte S3
Intel Core 2 Duo 6300
2GB Geil RAM
250GB Hitachi SATA Hard Drive

I put the Vista disc into the drive, it does it's usual stuff, loads the files, expands the files and gets it ready for install. It then reboots and goes to the "Completing Installation..." stage for which it hangs/stays there for well over 10 minutes - the progress bar doesn't move either. Then it finally auto-rebooted and it would say "Disk Boot Failure" - to which it's expected as it never completes the installation. I have to cycle the installation process over and over again and it never installs.

Why is this? I don't believe I need to reload the SATA drivers beforehand do I? (don't have floppy)...

I also just deleted the partition and created a new one and clicked "next" to install Vista and didn't perform a format after I deleted the old partitions - yet it didn't complain?

Is this any sign of a physical hardware failure? I've received no blue screens.

Please Help!!!

when u created a new partition did u click format?

or could be a SATA drivers problem... go to the MB site and download the vista drivers

Hi, I first deleted the existing 40gb partition, then created a new one and clicked format, it prompted saying the usual thing "this will permanently delete all files", I clicked OK and it just paused for a few secs and that was it. I didn't see any formatting progress bar or anything, so I clicked next to begin the install. I also loaded the Gigabyte SATA2 RAID drivers on a CD-R first and it still hangs on the "Completing Installation..." stage. :(

Do I have to disable anything in the BIOS to get this to work?

check your bios to see if theres a ide-sata option instead of raid... this way u won't need to install any sata drivers..

but only some motherboards have this option..

as for the formatting progress bar, there isn't one, and it only does a quick format...

After some extensive research on Google. I swapped the SATA cable from the yellow slots to the purple slots (Gigabyte controlled SATA ports) and Vista installed in minutes. :p Glad that's sorted.

ah that was lucky I had mine plugged into the yellow only changed to the purple ones just before booting up.

Do you know how to activate the aero feature?
