Installing Vista problem

I'm attempting to install Vista but when I come to select my HD to install to it tells me that it can't find a system volume. Is this a throwback to the old DOS days of Format C: /S ?

I have no floppy drive, so how do I get past this problem? My HDs are SATA, if it makes any odds.

Sounds like the SATA drivers haven't been loaded.

Try doing that first (they can be loaded off CD / USB stick).
