My Vista Ultimate 64bit came today.

Im a noob when it comes to PC's

I want to installl it but is it a case of just putting the cd in and then following the simple steps?

I can wait until Tomorrow and get my dad to do it, but I wanted to do it today..

so...

Ah sorry I didnt realise you already had computer up and running, though it was a fresh build, nvm, in that case then yeah as reflu says hit del as your computer starts to get into your BIOS, there should be an option to change your boot priority, make sure its CD/DVD before HDD, though it prob is anyway tbh. No you dont have to uninstall XP vista will just write over the top of it, but you will lose all your personal data and programs on the HDD, so if you need any files back them up, if you dont want to lose any programs etc you could buy a new HDD and install the new one as your main drive and install vista on that then just use your old drive as a secondary drive to access the files you have on it

Ok, thanks

When I put the cd and boot from cd.. what steps are there.. cos I think im going to get lost and do something wrong..

Because I you dont put the cd in.. and then click install, and then 30 mins later its done...!?

ok, Thanks

so basically I boot my computer from CD.. Then go into Bios. Select a partition , and I take it I delete that partition..

and then It should install Vista

Ok...

There aint much on my pc as I reformated the other day (I didnt reformat it, dad did).. But Do I want to Reformat? Or just Install Vista? Im basically saying how to Reformat and then install Vista

I put the CD in

Press Esc to Boot Menu

Then a list comes up

and my keyboard wont let me move down to select 'vista cd'

I ave tried 2 different Keyboards..

And I set CD to boot first in the bios

any suggestions?

Once you have set the PC to boot from the CD first, pop the CD in and turn the computer on, then don't press anything, it will load the CD and the install process automatically...then just follow the info on screen.

The guide above gets a thumbs up from me too.

I have done that but cd wont load up

yes I still have xp installed

SO I can just go to my computer, then load vista?

that sounds much easier.. but why do it the other way?

No reason, unless you dont have an OS installed. Yes, you can install from within your XP install. If you have a partitioned drive or 2 hard disk you could dual boot also. Just insert the dvd after booting or double click on the drive icon and he install dialog should pop up for you.

as I re-formated the other day maybe I need to update my cd driver?

if so, how do I do this?

Thanks
