I tried to install the Retail version of HP tonight, but gave up in the end. Installed a new 1 TB HDD, booted from the DVD and waited. After what felt like 10 mins a box popped up asking which language I wanted. After another 10 mins another box popped up with an 'Install Now' button in it. I clicked it, then waited another 10 mins before a progress bar popped up.

Why is it so slow? My PC has the quad core AMD Phenom II Black Edition CPU and 4GB RAM, it should fly. The RC install went miles faster than this?!
 
My install seemed to take ages, much longer than the RC. I just left it to it, all has been fine since the install.
 
Strangely enough, I had a reversal of this problem. The RC took ages to install, with long waiting inbetween each step but the retail version installed much faster. In the end though, the RC did manage to install and it was working perfectly fine afterwards. So yeah while it does feel like maybe the installation has crashed or is taking ages, if you are patient enough and just leave it, it will eventually go through. I never did figure out what the problem was, but I'm guessing maybe it was to do with the CD/DVD drive just playing about with the install disc.
