Ok I've finally got the green light to upgrade the family PC to Win 8

However with one caveat. That I retain the wife's favorites and all her e-mails including the personal folders that all her e-mails are in (outlook 2010).

To be honest I'm scared stiff of Outlook PST files as no matter how many times I reinstall it never seems to workout right and I end up with multiple inboxes and stuff like Personal Folders(1) Personal Folders(2) etc.

I've googled it and there doesn't seem to be a fail safe way of getting this right.

Does anyone have a good way of doing this so that when I reinstall outlook I can put her mails back.

Also what about my games in steam etc? Most of them are installed on external drives but is there anything I should look out for?

cheers,

John

Image the Win7 system before you upgrade. If all goes wrong, you can always restore from the Win7 system image.

i've kept steam on a separate parition for years and when you run it on a new install of windows, it just works. it even remembers your username/password which could be security concern if someone ever nicked my drive. :p

some games with have their own DRM and you'll be prompted to install it again before the game will launch. crysis is one example that i have. it just installs punkbuster and then it plays fine.
