installing windows 10 via USB

Hi

first time I tried to install windows 10 via usb, it said something about cant install on my ssd because of EFI or something, what does that all mean ?

ive now managed to install windows by changing the boot priority to a non-EFI , I have no idea why or even if that's correct

now when I turn the PC on, it gives me an option to load windows 10 or windows 7 !!

(windows 7 may partially be on another internal drive but its not complete , I cant remember) but I formatted my SSD when I was in the windows 10 setup screen

Windows = 1 HDD (Format with no drives attached)
Backup Files = 1 HDD (Format first, then attach and copy files back over)

Never install an os with other drives attached.

why is that ? ill start again then and pull the others out

Because if you don't you will get problems like what you are having. Sometimes Windows will use other drives for boot info e.t.c when it's not supposed too. Make sure you have the main drive attached only when installing an OS. Then attach the other drives after.

Surely if you wipe the drive that had Windows on it, and no other drive has ever had Windows on it then you won't run into these problems?

No, it still happens unfortunately.

I've installed systems with 2 brand new HDDs on, select Disk 0 only to install on, yet if I go and remove Disk 1 later on, it won't boot.

now I have installed my sound card (Xonar Essence STX) windows is saying "POWER UNPLUGGED" (for the sound card) which it isn't

any ideas?

What program are you using to create USB? Rufus any good?

A small partition of 100-400MB is created which is required to boot the system. Installing the OS while a second drive is connected results in this partition being on the second drive, hence if you remove it at a later date the system will no longer boot.

When installing fresh always have just your OS drive connected

if you are using imaging software (Acronis etc) then this doesn't matter since it will just dump everything on to the drive you select.
