Hey guys basically finished building PC and tried to install Windows 7 on IDE Hard Drive but doesn't detect it nor show up.

The Hard drive is connect through the 4 pin molex to PUS for power and through an ID drive to SATA converter and then onto the mobo's SATA. SO im sure everything is in place.

Do I need to change it in the BIOS?

Thanks again

Does it show up in the BIOS?

I've checked the BIOS, its detected my blu ray drive on SATA 1, all the other SATAs say not detected. however when I go to SATA Configuration it shows Onboard SATA channel as enabled. SATA port 1-4 IDE and SATA port 5-6 IDE. I tried that but still nothing. and tried AHCI nothing?
there is also raid but I don't know what that is lol
what else can I do? cheers

You're using an IDE to SATA converter? I don't think those sort of things ever work... Best to get a PCI IDE controller card, but IDE is pretty old and pretty much nearly phased out. I would recommend getting a new SATA hard drive instead, but the prices at the moment...

Is the hard drive powering up? Tried changing the jumper settings?

Yes, the Hard drive is very warm so it definately poweed on, On the jumper its set on the 4th pin out of 5pins.

The converter is connect onto the hard drives ID connection

I've tried both the IDE drive to SATA and SATA drive to IDE but still nothing with the functions on the BIOS.

You probably have a faulty converter. Can you try the IDE drive in another PC with a native IDE port?

Well that Hard drive was in my old PC so it does work 100%, yeh that could be a dodgy converter. I'll try plugging the SATA cable from it into another port on the mobo and see what happens.

Does the converter have a switch? the one i used was never concise on the switch position to make it work.
If not then i can only really suggest trying a different converter.

Hmmm my one is called Dynamode IDE to SATA converter, it only has two connectors IDE HDD to SATA and vice-versa. guess it is dodgy converter :(

Thanks anyway dude.

Reading it on the jungle page, it seems it requires a dedicated power connection via the floppy 4 pin connector? And each SATA port goes in a different direction. Apparantly it's written on it but in very small text. Have you connected the 4 pin power cable to it?

Thx dude basically I've had it connected to an 4-pin molex(I think its called that) into the power-supply. btw I also have 1 floppy 4 pin that came with my PSU should I try with that?

This is a copy and paste from another website

"NO INSTRUCTIONS! No friggin instructions! Really, this is inadmissible. For one thing, it won't work with IDE drives unless they are jumpered for master, and for another only the *middle* sata port allows IDE drives to be detected. If you connect it up via the other sata port, you'll probably just assume it's broke."

and also

"To allow me to use an old IDE hard drive and IDE DVD drive with a new SATA based motherboard I purchased two of these devices. I am pleased to say they worked straight away. My only complaints are the very tiny writing on the board identifying the direction of the SATA connectors (one for each direction) and the sloppy fit of the molex connector pins on the power adaptor cable (trying to get all 4 pins lined up to fit the mating half was very tricky)."

---

From that, I see the drive has to be set on master for it to work and the converter has more than one sata connection on it, some which will work with IDE drives and ones that wont.

Not sure how to discribe the middle one which was suggested. I seem to read it only has 2 connections so not sure what middle means.

#1 If it has more than one sata connection try the other one.
#2 Also look on the drive itself, it should explain what the pins on it mean. With a little picture or some text above the pins. You need the two connected for 'master'.

This is guess work, but reviews seem to suggest it works, but can be a bit tricky to get working!

Thx for that, I try and upload a detailed picture of the converter and hard drive. prehaps a close for you guys to see. just bare with me :)

Here it is sorry for the quality:

From left to right white connector(4 pin powe connector didnt use that) Black connector(IDE HDD= SATA) Black connector last one(SATA HDD=ID)

and the red calbe is an SATA cable, I use the black cable next to it to plug into the 4 pin powe on the hard drive next to the jumper if that makes sense.

thanks again.

You need to use the white power connector on the convertor in addition to the molex plugged into the hard drive. Otherwise how does the convertor get power?

You need to use the white power connector for the SATA to IDE bridge chip in addition to the molex plugged into the hard drive.

Oh right cheers but where do I ind the power cable needed for the white 4 pin? along with the molex plugged in hard drive?

I justed looked at the IDE slot on the HDD and realised there were still two pins there to connect need to replug it silly me lol.
