I installed 10 and now I want to install 7 by partitioning and then installing on the same drive.

However, I read then that you should install the older operating system first, if you are installing a newer OS. This was generic advice from microsoft. However I understand you can install 8/8.1 first then 7. Has anyone tried this with 10 then 7?

Thanks.

I dual boot Windows 10 and Windows 7 on my main PC, but I installed the older OS first and always have. You could try installing Windows 7 on the other partition then use BCD to add Windows 10, though I cannot guarantee that would work.

The above suggestion should in theory work, certainly worth trying. But it's always a bit of a faff if you're installing to just one physical disk and want to reinstall the oldest OS later, it is best to install that first in your scenario.

When it comes to dual booting, the best and cleanest way is to install each operating system onto its own disk with no other disks present, reinstall your other disks and then select which OS to boot using your BIOS boot selection key.
