Installing Windows 7 from WD elements?

I'm trying to install windows from this drive but every attempt has failed, I've tried using windows usb tool and diskpart and it won't boot from the drive. I've done this without a problem with a maxtor hdd, but sadly I don't have that drive anymore.

Is it the drive, or more likely me?

Have you run the bootsect.exe command

Are there any errors stored anywhere?
I boot from the usb drive and all that happens is it loads XP like normal.

Didn't notice before, but am getting 'no boot sector' when trying to boot from the drive.
It does appear to work fine though when testing on another laptop.

are you plugged into ports on your actual motherboard? i've read that this sort thing may not work if connected through front panel headers.
