Installing Windows 7 off USB Drive

Hi does anyone know which software in order to transfer Windows 7 from disk to a USB drive?

Also how is it done, is it simple? Always used the disk myself but figured ive give this a go.

in short user diskpart to partition the usb drive - you cannot use the GUI because it will not allow you to make the aprtition active...

its as simple as creating a partition, make active, format fat32 copy the contents of the install CD onto it.. I did it yesterady, much easier that I thought

Looks easy enough. Thing is i need the Windows 7 ISO, does that mean i have to extract the data off disk as an ISO image first? If so which software for that, alcohol maybe?

use imgburn to make the iso, you can download the ISO from microsoft website, if you have the valid key, i think.

wintoflash does this too. All you need to do is stick in the DVD and choose the drive letter for it and then the drive letter of the USB and let it do its magic.

Looks good aswell as uNetbootin, Does rufus also put the ISO on the drive as well?

What they do is extract the ISO to the drive, think of an ISO as a zip file with burning instructions for your CD writing software.

Cool they look good, silly question to ask but are they safe to use as in free from any malicious software etc? Also just to clarify you need a valid Key to use it as well (which i have)?

Also groen, If i where to use imgburn, what read speeds would you recommend i use to make the image?

Also bledd which settings would recommend using for rufus as well?

Microsoft's own tool has proved annoying for me. Caused issues for installing Windows, i.e. it not actually installing at all.

Ended up just using DISKPART and doing it all manually and it's never failed since.
