Installing Windows 7

Hi all,

My laptop hard drive has died and I have lost my recovery discs!

If I buy a new hard drive can I install windows 7 from my retail copy that is installed on my PC but use the product key thats on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop?

I believe you can, I've done the same before.

Depends on the laptop. Some of them have keys which only work with their own specific OEM version of Windows. I believe there are workarounds for this but someone more techy than me would have to tell you what they are.
