I bought an OEM dvd of Windows 8, got home and remembered i had no plans of fitting an optical drive!

Went onto the Microsoft site but i only seem to be able to download an upgrade ISO and not a full copy.

Found the following site which gave a tutorial

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/install-windows-8-usb.htm

I followed it to the point of creating an ISO of my Windows dvd using a software called Burnaware. Its created the ISO but when i try to burn it to my USB drive using the Windows ISO burner program it tells me that its not a valid ISO.

Anyone have any ideas i could try other than going out to buy a USB dvd drive?

2. Download the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool from Microsoft and then install it.

This free program from Microsoft properly formats your flash drive and then copies the contents of the Windows 8 installation ISO file you have to that flash drive.

Did you not do this? the instructions are pretty explicit - create the ISO then use the usb/dvd tool to format and create the bootable flash drive with the win8 install files. You shouldn't be using any other software to try and copy the ISO to the flash drive, not least because this will not make it a bootable device.

Apologies if it wasnt clear. I used the other software to create an ISO from my windows dvd and then used to Windows software to try to burn the ISO
