Hey all, I've currently got a Samsung Series 7 Chronos laptop running W7, I'm wanting to swap the HDD out for an SSD, and also to install W8 on it, but just looking for the best way to go about this.

Currently my plan is to install W8 as an upgrade on top of W7 the old HDD using a standard install, and then mirror the image of that via USB to the new SSD, and then just swap the drives. I'm assuming this would work?

Any input from you guys will be great :) Thanks!

You might want to shrink the partition first but yeah it should be fine.

Ah yeah, that's a good point! The SSD will be 250GB, whereas the HDD is 1TB. What's the best way around that? Simply shrinking the partition on the HDD where Windows is installed down to ~250GB?

Get it down to less than whatever the formatted size of the SSD is. That's if you're using the built in imaging tool. If you're using something fancier it might let you restore to smaller disks without you having to do it manually.
