Installing Windows 8 - Will it delete my files?

I am about to perform a partial clean installation of windows 8. The OS is going on a new 840 pro but I am planning on installing users on a HDD I am currently using for my data drive. Would installing users on the data drive wipe what is currently on it? My only option to back up is to a painfully slow USB external drive that will take forever so I would avoid doing so if I knew my files aren't going anywhere.

Unless you tell Windows installer to remove a partition, it will never delete your user files.

I'd always have at least one backup of all your files though, crazy not to!

You *should* be ok, but I guess you already know that nothing's guaranteed, and if the data has any value it should be backed up anyway.

I thought as much. The data is not valuable, it would just cause inconvenience if lost. Thanks for the help.
