just dug out my desktop, and need to install windows, however there's no boot option for usb, it's running latest driver, al though thats from 2010.

is there anyway to install from usb?
it doesn't have a cd drive etc.

Is it a X58 board? I have a Asus P6x58D-E mobo and can boot with no issues.

When PC booting up i can press F12 for the boot menu and select the USB stick.

If you dont have this option can you not change the first boot device to the USB stick in the bios?

USB drives are listed as hard drives on the P6T, so you'll need to select boot from HDD then select the USB as the first boot device in the HDD list.

I have had a quick look through the manual and cannot see any options to boot from USB.

can you boot the PC is to Dos, browse to the USB stick and run setup.exe?

another option that may help.

I had a laptop i could not boot from USB so what i did was boot the PC and press F8 to bring up the options to boot in to safe mode etc.

from that menu i selected run windows repair and from within there i was able to load command prompt. once in there i did the above, browsed to USB stick and ran setup.exe then formatted the SSD and re installed.

Ok, having another look through the manual do you have Legacy USB boot enabled?

set it to auto and it should detect the USB stick at startup.

below is taken from the manual

yep its set to auto.
what a pain, suppose i'll have to swap ssd in laptop, install windows there, then hope it boots pc. darn old or maybe broken hardware, although i'm sure i've done it before.

Is it not showing up in the list of hard drives when boot from HDD is selected? I'm booting mine daily from a USB stick trying out linux without having to reformat my SSD. Was the win10 media just copied to the stick or was it created as a bootable USB stick using the Windows downloader?

created using the windows media tool, so proper bootable usb.
and nope not showing as a hdd.
also tried doing it again incase it was a bad copy and still doing the same.

no safe mode or anything, its got an extremely old version of w10 insider on it which has long since expired and just get a you need to reinstall windows screen.

Try a different flash drive, I have a couple here that simply refuse to be recognised after being made bootable. I found Lexars always seem to work as bootable for me.
Also use Rufus to make a bootable Win10 drive if possible.

thanks everyone, it was the f8 i was missing, although now i noticed that was posted earlier as well, must have missed that post, thank you guys.

Still not working, tried verything thats above. Trying to boot from an hard drive that has windows installed and confirmed that it works on an other pc, the asus **** board doesnt boot from an usb but boots to windows on an ssd that has windows on it...

My P6T will boot from usb no problem, you must have missed something.

enable USB legacy support, press f12 is select boot menu and select the device you want to boot from, make sure the device you are booting from is set up correctly using the media creation tool and it should boot without issue.

i have tried it on multiple usb sticks (usb 1,2,3), multiple different drives and multiple different bootable usb creation softwares, nothing seems to work. i have given up with it and just going to have to make it work for my brother with some ssd that works
