Hello guys,

Just got the download, now not done this for a while - last install was a XP several years ago using windows floppy disk!

I've now got a SATA drive - what should i do , just boot up with the CD first and then install onto the hard drive?

However dont i need to format the drive? and ideally i want to partition it, currently 250gb what ideally 90gb and 160gb partitions, how do i go about doing that??

(apologies if this is posted in the wrong forum, Mods pls move if required).

yep boot from the disk and install onto your drive

Pretty sure that you can do your partitioning in the setup stage just like 2003/XP

dont need SATA drivers for Vista/2008, has generic ones on the disc

doesn't have 'generic' ones, it just has some that xp is missing, you still need drivers for some raid/sata controllers, but you can load them from usb

I've just bought a Western Digital Caviar Blue 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache from OcUK - do you reckon the drivers would be included/listed in Vista?

If not should i just download them from WD site and put them on USB - but when and how should i load these drivers up?

(apologies for all the questions...)

SATA drivers are for the SATA chipset on your motherboard, not for the actual drive.

yup

what motherboard do you have?

chances are it has an AHCI or IDE mode, which means windows will just pick it up as normal

it's more the earlier chipsets that couldn't do this so well
