i have created a image of a fresh windows install, but for curosity reasons I have a 80GB Sata running in enhanced mode in Bios with a IDE 120GB IBM drive. If I install windows from fresh, I have to disconnect my IBM, because Windows defaults to this and does not show the SATA drive. Anyone know why it does this? I have a Epox mobo on a 478 P4 so not sure the bios type?

cheers

Have you pressed f6 during install to setup your sata adapter? If not you'll need a floppy with the motherboard drivers for your sata controller.

you have to install the sata drivers from a floppy (drivers are usually on the motherboard CD) using the F6 key just as the windows instalation begins.

this should allow you to install the OS on the sata drive

nah i dont need to install, because if I unplug the IDE, it installs on the SATA, its only if both SATA and IDE are connected it defaults to IDE and does not show my SATA.

So, if you havent already, unplug the ide, install windows and then plug the ide back in.

If you want to look further, it could be the boot order in the bios

Ok you've probably done this :o

sorry to interrupt but what happens if u dont have a floppy drive?

how else can u install the drivers for the SATA
