how do i get the installation of windows started when using a BartPE disk. It boots into the Bartpe interface ok but how do i start the windows installation???

Well BartPE isn't an Install Disk as far as i know.

You would have to put in your Windows Disk and boot from CDROM Drive like you do with BartPE.

I thought BartPE was just a Live CD boot of Windows. Didn't think you could actually install Windows from it.

Well as long as you have a LEGIT Copy of Windows you can install it on your computer.

Just insert the disk, boot from disk.

If your PC isn't set to boot from disk Turn on the PC, press the specified key to enter setup (BIOS) Usually F1, Esc or Delete.

Go to advanced CMOS Features or something along those lines and make sure it is set to CD/DVD ROM, then your hard drive or other bootable sources.

Save and exit bios, insert CD, boot from CD, and install windows.

why do you all assume i dont have a legit copy, i would just like to point out i do have a legit copy.

I want to do it this way as i lost my original disk but kept a backup copy but it is not bootable.

Well whenever someone asks how to install Windows I think most of us make sure we tell you that it has to be legit.

You could always borrow a friends disk and then use your own Key.

If it is OEM it has to be installed on the same computer that it was installed on before.

I would imagine the copy you have taken has an error or something, I would not advise taking copies of Windows Install disks as they quite clearly state do NOT make illegal copies of this disk. Unless in the agreement it says that you can take a copy of the CD/DVD for your own back-up purposes only, I am unsure on this issue.

Woah there Captain Paranoid, I assume absolutely nothing.

The only possible assumption anyone can make from your OP is that you want to install Windows having not done so before, hence my recommendation of purchasing yourself a copy.

Since you have enlightened me with this new source of information, that being that you have previously purchased a copy of Windows and are now looking to reinstall using your legitimate key, I would then withdraw my recommendation and allow another Microsoft enthusiast to offer his advice.

Smithy out.
