installing xp on linux acer inspire

Hi,

if you mean the aspire one its dead easy if you have a usb DVD drive, slightly harder if you only have a usb memory stick. Also if you have the ssd model and not the hard drive model then you will need to make a few changes to how XP is configured.

Plenty of guides on the net. I have the 120Gb hdd model and using an external usb DVD drive it was probbaly the easiest xp install ive ever done. If I remember right you will need at least the service pack 2 version of XP as the original version will blue screen on install. I used service pack 3 XP and it was fine.

Cheers,

Just followed that guide myself, using a USB stick and an SSD Acer one.

When installing, mine seemed to hang at 13 minutes to go. I had to leave it about 25 mins.

One thing to note, after installation you will have a boot menu with a delay of 30 seconds. To reduce, or get rid of this delay go...

START>Control panel>System>Advance>Then in the "startup and recovery" box, click settings. Then you can edit the delay to a few seconds, or 0 for no delay.

EDIT:Performance seems OK for web surfing, and Word/excel but its when it tries to multitask it get a bit slow and unresponsive...like when using a celeron/duron.

Hope that is of some help.

I got Kubuntu 8.4 on an Aspire 1680

I have gone through a silly ammount of various Linux flavours on this LapTop, and they have all gone on just fine.

No USB anything, straight CD/DVD in the drive and straight onto the LapTops HD.

Only issues I had were that ( And this is a real doozie ) is that I must use both the PSU and an external Mouse??

If I miss out on the PSU, or the Mouse, then as soon as I touch the touchpad, it hangs???

Whats really weird about that, is that the next time I start it up, whether I have the PSU & Mouse connected or not, it will hang as soon as the desktop comes up, and the Second time as soon as I touch a button, but the third time is fine??? - Go figure?

Other than that, as long as I use the PSU and mouse, its fine.

I think the original poster is on about the Acer Aspire One Netbook, not an apsire laptop, which comes without a dvd drive due to it's small size. So you can only install OS and stuff either via a USB stick or External DVD drive.

I was also thinking that, but since the O/P had not said anythign whether it be or not be either, and everyone else replied about the One, I thought Id add about my Aspire...

Which is a LapTop.

hehe
