Ive just bought a 5150c from Dell which came with Windows MCE. Im tired of all the clutter and crap they ship on their PC's so went to format and reinstall but when I boot from the windows CD it gets to the part where it detects the hard drive, finds four "unrecognised partitions" and if I press any key to try and install the software I get a BSOD with the message:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA

Ive never installed onto a SATA HDD before, are there any special requirements?

Any ideas what's going on?

Thanks

need to find out what SATA controller the hard drive uses you'll need to put the drivers on a floppy, and press F6 to install them in xp (watch for it during installation!)

Weird. When ever i have used SATA drives, there is no error, it just can't find the drive. I would look on the motherboard manufactures website and download the SATA driver.

Any SATA drives that I installed never needed drivers as drivers are only needed for setting up RAID.

Maybe things have changed for some reason even though I installed like 60+ of them last year and never once needed driver.

However, you the drivers for setting up RAID.

Maybe the new SATA2 drives need drivers due to XP being out before they were made.

I think you will find some SATA controllers (nForce/Nvidia) emulate IDE thus requiring no drivers for the HD's to be detected during XP install. Promise, silicon image ..etc don't do this hence the need for SATA drivers.
