I recently sold a computer with a MSI G31M3-F Motherboard and The Latest Ubuntu installed but the buyer wants to install Windows XP and is having problems.

She says when she boots from the Windows XP disk as if to start a new Install she gets messages telling her that there is a hardware compatibility problem and it won't go any further.

This as me stumped as I have never had any problem like this and this computer used to run windows 7 quite happily and surely all hardware would be XP compatible.

She says it's the full genuine version of Windows XP and she as used it on her other computer with no problems and I have no reason to doubt her. Also the Bios as been set to boot from CD first and she is press the key to continue booting from CD etc.

Does anybody have any idea whats going on?

She asn't deleted anything from the ubuntu setup as she just wants to delete partitions and format from Windows XP installation CD.

The Sata compatibility could be a good call.

After googling i've read that sometimes you need to wipe the drive first because grub writes to the MBR and can cause problems but surely if it's booting straight from a Windows CD it's not going to even read the hard disk before it boots up?

Thanks chaps
