It is probably the lack of a floppy drive. XP needs the SATA drivers supplied in the form of a floppy drive, it will not recognise a USB or CD drive for this purpose. There are some utilities which may help with making a virtual floppy drive or possibly a USB floppy may work. Alternatively you may be able to slipstream the drivers onto the install disk.
