Can i do this? I have a friend who needs to reinstall xp but doesnt have his disk but still has his original key code that came with his computer.

I presume that the key code he has was the one you get when you buy a new computer from a retal store - You get a key code stuck to the back of the computer and recovery disks.

My xp disk is an OEM version i bought online. He will not be using the key code supplied with MY disks.

Are we able to do this?

Yep it will work :) I've done hundreds of windows installs with the same disc and never had a problem. I'm assuming both cd keys are for the same version (home/professional) of windows xp?

Yeh they are both for the same edition (home).
The thing that worries me a bit is that his key code came with the recovery disks (and computer) and my disk was a proper oem full version of xp.

I guess although you only get the recovery disks when you buy a retal computer you are still paying for a full xp licence, so im hoping what i want to do will be fine.

Thanks for the reply.

You will probably have to activate through the automated telephone service instead of online but it is perfectly legal and takes only a couple of minutes.
The number BTW is 0800 018 8354
