I picked up an old PC from a hotel and it has been formatted but comes with a XP license sticker on the machine.

I haven't got any disks for it, how do I go about installing XP on it? I thought that all XP disks are unique to a key or have I got that wrong?

Cheers!

You can install any copy of Windows XP using the licence key displayed on the sticker so long as it's the exact version of the OS displayed.

For instance, if it says Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition on the sticker, the licence key will only work with that, and not for XP Professional.
The licence key is then verified via the internet once you're logged on etc.

If you can get a XP disc, then it is just a case of using that key on the case. As for unique keys, dell disc have got a key on them, but you can still use them with that key on your case.

Thank you very much for the replies!

I'll see if I can apprehend a Professional disc from somewhere!
