installing XP

I have a Dell laptop which is in a bad state.
I need to reintall Windows XP. I don't have any CDs with this laptop and the restore partition has been deleted.
However I do have the CD key and a Dell copy of XP that came with a Desktop.
Can I install this copy of XP (which is being used on another PC) and then enter the CD key from the laptop?
They are both XP Media centre edition too.
Any advice would be helpful.

Might work, the CD might be locked to a certain chipset or something like that though.

Best bet would be to try and borrow someones CDs, the key will work.
