I drink mostly tea but have the occasional cup of coffee. I dunno, to me they all taste much the same. I've finished a Douwe Egberts Brazilian Samba and thought I'd give the Tesco finest Costa Rican a try today, so bought some. I can't discern the chocolate or caramel in it, just tastes much the same as the Douwe Egberts, bitter coffee. They both taste fine but it makes me wonder if it's worth worrying about which brand and coffee flavour to buy in future. and just buy any of them, apart from the absolute cheapest. Maybe I don't have the proper tastebuds for coffee. I find the same with tea, the more expensive ones don't really taste any different to me. Do any of you have a preference for a particular coffee?

nescafe azera americano is my new favourite instant coffee , im sure coffee snobs will chime in and tell me how i need to brew the beans or what ever but i don't have time for that in the morning and i only drink 1 cup a day so it's not worth me investing in expensive coffee!

When I don't have time to make old fashioned coffee I normally have some Nescafe Azera Intenso and Americano. Always seems to be either half price or two for one so not breaking the bank bearing in mind that I only have a few cups a week.

EDIT: Actually prefer Intenso to Americano but got the latter in a two for one so drinking it now :D

If you're bothered about what your coffee tastes like then instant really isn't the way to go. I find the more expensive ones I've tried have been ok, the cheap ones can be horrible.

The Nescafe Azera stuff is infinitely better than most instant coffees, but it really is worth the extra minute in the morning to brew one properly. Stick coffee and hot water in a caffetiere, give it 5 mins while you do something else, like put your suit on/eat your breakfast/whatever, and by the time you're done you've got a cup of coffee that is actually drinkable :)

I learnt how to make 'Scandinavian coffee' while in the Midwest in US, just find it too messy in the morning as it involves egg shells, so don't make it unless I also fancy eggs for breakfast :D Honestly though it may sound disgusting to some but sticking eggshell in the coffee just about completely takes any bitterness out of it!

EDIT: Here's a couple of different links

I mostly drink instant, because I'm lazy, and go for Douwe Egberts Dark as preference. Buy in multiples when it's on offer.

To be honest, though, all instants are pretty poor. I've not yet found an instant which I can stomach drinking black. Filter coffee I'll happily go sans milk, but instant just makes me feel ill without milk.

I like both of these if i have to drink instant coffee.

My brother bought an Aeropress recently. It makes decent coffee very quick. Takes maybe 30-40 seconds longer than making instant coffee.
You still need to buy proper coffee for it (preferably beans to grind yourself but you could buy ground coffee for it), but it's worth it.

Main thing I dislike with using a cafetiere (and that aeropress looks similar in this regard) is the extra stuff to clean up. I can live with the making taking a little longer, but not the tidying up :)

It seems similar, yes.
Not sure what's involved in cleaning a cafetiere, we have a proper espresso machine and just got the aeropress to see what it's like.
The aeropress is very easy to clean, the compressed coffee and filter pops out the bottom then the rest of it can be rinsed.
Certainly more to clean up than instant coffee though.

For instant, I favour Carte Noir, but in the absence of that I will go for the cheapest one available, as it usually somehow ends up being the smoothest.
I despise anything from a cafetiere or similar and 'proper' coffee always tastes like bitter mud to me.

And yet, I will insist on proper stuff for my little on-the-hob espresso thing.

This is going to sound terrible, but I just remembered I used to drink Mellow Birds instant coffee and used to enjoy it :o Perhaps I enjoy smoother rather than stronger. Does powdered instant coffee make any difference from granules in terms of flavour/smoothness? By the way, I prefer adding 3 heaped teaspoons of Coffeemate powder instead of milk to make it creamier.
