My mate works for a builder's yard. Yesterday he was supposed to work. He basically pulled a sickie.

That night, in his infinite wisdom, he went to his local pub. He bumped into his boss after he'd had a couple of jars.
Next day, to cut a long story short

'Yesterday you were well enough to get to the pub and have some bevvies, so in my opinion you were well enough to get to work, so you directly lied to me about being sick, so you're sacked'.

No warnings formal, written or otherwise, just 'get out now'. He didn't get paid for the day he was sacked but was only there for 15 minutes. Oh, he is (was!) within his 3 month 'trial period'.

He can't prove he was ill with formal doctors notes or anything, just lie more, as between you and me he wasn't actually ill at all.

Worth bothering with industrial tribunals and letters of complaint and calls for redundancy money and talking to citizens advice (or something), or just let it go?

So he wasn't actually ill, lied to his Boss about it, got caught and now you're asking if he should lie to an industrial tribunal as well?

Are you asking on his behalf or is it you who has no morals and thinks its ok to lie to the tribunal and steal money from it?

It is not me. I work in IT

'You've got egg on your face' is a (very) old expression which means you have embarressed yourself / made a fool of yourself.

Eggface is a shorthand way of writing it

Why did he go to the pub!? i bet it was his boss's local aswell haha!

He's not really 100% all there upstairs.

I mean -- he has a wierd attitude to work probably instilled in him by his dad. If he wakes up and fancies it, he thinks it's acceptable to just think 'Don't think I'll bother with work today' and not go!

Needless to say, he's never held down a job for very long.
He thinks work is a thing which should only be bothered with if 'You're head's right and you're up for it'. And looks at me like I'm a wierdo if I say something like 'I really wish I didn't have work tomorrow' and then go to work! With him he would NEVER do this -- each morning is a serious decision as to whether he's gonna bother that day or not ...!
