I think in that case it's sound advise .. I'll try a 5870 and then just return it if I still have the same compatibility issues and crashes.

Like I said, I don't mind who makes the card only that it works, has DX11 and is good value for money. I wasn't prepared to risk buying another card from the same series but as you said they are more different than I realised.

What issues and crashes? Had 3 5770's in various machines which are well used and have very few issues and no crashes?

My 5870 with the new drivers is great, and I've had next to no issues with it.....
 
I seen a few of those posts with people moaning about ATI drivers and that there getting a Nvidia card, call me sceptical but I reckon a couple of those are made by duplicate accounts as there is simply nothing wrong with ATI drivers, you get monthly releases, hotfixes and regular commentary about what the driver team is up to and what there working on.
