Hey there.

I currently got a Log Cabin build in my back door which im going to use as an office.

I had a gas fire in it at first but it was still not very warm so I got some insulation put into the celling, which made a big difference.

The room heats up quicker and keeps warm while the heater is on, but as soon as I turn it off the room gets pretty cold within 30 minutes.

I was looking at at some Insulating Paint for the walls and I came across a product called Thermilate.

http://www.thermilate.co.uk/

Has anybody ever used this before or knows if it actually works?

Also, I think im loosing a lot of the heat through the door as it seems to be very cold around the area where the door is, I cant feel any draughts, anybody got any idea of how to insulate the door?

No idea on the paint, but the best way to test for draughts around doors/windows is with a lit candle.

A flame is much more sensitive to draughts than your skin.

How about some pictures of the cabin so we can suggest other ways of insulating it?

Plus, my mate is thinking of building one in his garden :)

A better option may be a home-made solar panel heating the water in a water tank in the corner of the room. If its insulated well the tank should heat well throughout the day and keep a lot of heat through the night as well keeping it warm. Plus you will be saving money on running your heater!

This is something I will be experimenting with come spring time :)

I would also be interested in whether this paint works - my house is made of poured concrete (think 1949 ish building) and the walls get blinking cold in the winter as there is no air gap / insulation.

If that saves me a few quid in the long run I will have a looksie!

Never heard of it. Interestingly, Hanson (and others) do concrete blocks called Thermalite, which I have specified for construction before. Seeing as the latter name is a trusted one, I am surprised there is another product with the same name out there.

I'll take some pictures in the morning, I wasn't wanting to go to the route of adding Plasterboard with Insulating backing as it will take up a lot of space.

I hate them houses, i fit a pair of doors where a window was in one a few days ago and it took forever removing all the concrete.

Most councils have put a layer of foam insulation on the outsides of the houses and then rendered it. I cant see how some paint would do anything at all tbh.

Paint wont do anything in terms of acting as insulation. will most likely plug up and gaps/cracks that could let the air out.

As already said, make sure the doors/windows are sealed. if you don't have any insulation on the floor i suggest you do that next.

Pictures would be a better help.

Edit - just had a look at thier website, what a load of tosh. if you want to waste your money can i have it?

- http://www.energyideas.org/documents/Factsheets/PTR/Insuladd.pdf review of similar product. although none of these insulating paints have been through any independant standards testing (doesnt even has a BS/EN code) they also don't quote any U values, anywhere.
