insurance advice (renewal details)

i had a minor bump in june 05 (my fault) we exchanged details, i reported it to my insurer, but heard nothing since. they had advised me i would not lose my 5yrs NCD (iirc they said it would dropt to 4?) is this correct? can't really remember tbh what they said. cos i need to get quotes for renewal soon.

I had to put a claim in last year for a repair when my wife decided to reverse into a tree,The bill came to £800 and it would have cost me 2 years ncb if i hadn't had protected ncb.
