Hey,

Just got a MBP 15" retina, and am wondering what the best options are for insurance.

I basically don't wanna be screwed if I spill a cup of tea over it :p Is that kind of thing usually covered on home insurance, or is dedicated cover advisable?

I guess I have the standard 1 year warranty right now, do you guys usually go for the extended AppleCare after that?

Thanks :)

The standard 1 year warrenty will not cover you for spilling a drink on it or anything like
that a 1 year warrenty will cover you if something goes on the laptop due to no fault
of yours.

I would probably think that the Apple Care Insurance as well will only cover you for thing
that go wrong with the MBP due to no fault of your own.

I would probably suggest getting it covered on your house insurance that is what I have
done with my entire system in my sig, which I know is a bit different but you get the idea.

Home contents insurance with accidental damage cover - which tbh everyone should have anyway.

I took out Apple Care on my iMac a few years ago as it was dirt cheap through a friends student discount, but haven't bothered on my rMBP. No denying its a good service, but quite expensive unless discounted.

I use home contents insurance with accidental damage and have specified the MBP as it is above the limit most companies will pay for what they consider high risk items. I have also added personal belongings cover which means my gadgets (phone, laptop etc) are covered when I take them out of the house as well.

Mine is the same as shine. You don't have to be the holder of the insurance on some policies either.

AppleCare is extended warranty support, nothing more. Depending on the fault, SOGA can cover issues.

AppleCare+ is what you are looking for, but that is currently not available here. Home insurance would still be the better choice there anyway.
