Hi all,

Just looking for some information/help regarding my situation.
I had my insurance renewed in March 2018 and have moved address at the end of July. I got around to calling my insurance yesterday to let them know of my new address but they have told me that due to "risk of flooding" they can't insure me on my new address. The new address is a 2nd floor apartment on a hill which is only 4 miles away from my last address. I have until 14/08/16 to find a new insurer with my NCB going back to 2 years.

Is there anything I can do regarding challenging their decision to cancel or any information I should for/know about?

Any help would be appreciated.

Don't think there's anything you can do. I'd just try and make sure it doesn't show as your insurance actually being cancelled as per your heading as that can count against you.

Also i presume the fact it's a 2nd floor apartment is irrelevant since you won't be parking the car in your apartment.

Can i also clarify, you've said "moved address at the end of August", which is in the future. Do you mean end of July or that you're moving at the end of August?

All you can really do is look for a new provider. We moved house and our home insurance wouldn't cover the new house so we just changed. Hopefully yours won't charge you an Early termination fee as a goodwill gesture.

I will need to phone them again to confirm whether it's void or cancelled and maybe get it in writing.
We moved in at the end of July, that's now fixed. Thanks

The insurance cover will most likely be voided, so you won't need to state to future insurers that you've had insurance cancelled before, but definitely confirm it and get it in writing.

Phoned them back and confirmed that it doesn't need to be declared for new insurer. Was sent an endorsement letter stating this.

Sounds like your current insurer uses postcodes only and doesn't take elevation into account, I've been refused house insurance before now for the same reason. We're close to a river but at the top of a hill, most of the UK would be under water before it gets to us but computer says no.

Yeah, the woman on the phone said that since the systems said no, she can't change/do anything.

You could ask them to make flood damage an exclusion to see if they'll agree to run the policy on that basis until renewal in March so you get your 3 yrs ncd. Worth a shot.

Otherwise you'll need to insure elsewhere, don't worry your policy won't be voided and you won't have to declare this.

Updated your v5&driving license ?

they have been leniant .. insurance charged me a premium, when I forgot to mention a change to uk driving license,
check they are refunding pro-rata ?

I will give them another call and see if this is something they can do.

Is this car or buildings insurance?

This would be car insurance :)
