Right, at the moment I still drive the corsa ad paying massive insurance premiums on it too, currently almost £1500 for my cover, now in April I will hopefully get my first years no claims assuming I have a safe few months. I just wondered what sort of difference this first years no claims will make to me? At the time of getting insured in the first place I was 17 and just passed, obviously I will be 18 come the renewal, will this help much at all in addition to the NCB? I have saved plenty of money in the last 9 months anyway so I would like to upgrade in april to something a bit nicer.
I just wanted to know how the first years no claims discount affected other peoples insurance.

Cheers for any help.

From USwitch.com;

Insurers usually follow this scale for no claims bonus discount:

One year – 30% discount
Two years – 40% discount
Three years – 50% discount
Four years – 60% discount
Five years – 65% discount

So you should be looking at just over £1k, obviously shopping around may yeald better results too.

I think it also takes into account you're less of a risk anyway with having had your licence a year, so the 30%NCB is on a lower premium anyway?

didnt a lot of people say last year that the extra no claims almost made no difference, this being down to so many accidents and insurers putting premiums up for all to cover the cost?

going from 17 with 0yr ncb to 18 with 1yr ncb makes a massive difference, as most people have shown it takes about 40-50% off.....and premiums arent likely to double from one year to the next

Maybe if you went from 23 with 4yr ncb to 24 with 5yr ncb it might not make much of a difference with the ever increasing premiums

does holding a licence for many years without having a car effect the quote a lot?

A 17 year old could have no interest in getting a car untill hes older but want to pass his test ASAP so hes holding the licence early on

The longer you hold your license the better I think is the rule for most insurance companies

I called for a quote on a 1.5 litre proton and they wouldn't insure me because I have had my license under a year.
