Hi there,
My friend was involved in an accident a few months back.
He was in his van sat at a cross roads waiting to pull out.
Black car on opposite side of cross roads pulled out into oncoming traffic/failed to stop and hit a red car on the intersecting road. This caused the red car to hit the front of my friends van.
Black car driver got very abusive, red car driver was pregnant with another in the back so friend called the police, some other bystanders cared for the red car driver and black car driver was left to cool off.
Police attended and gave my friend a crime ref no and said to give that to his insurers and get his van checked over for safety, since appeared drivable (and fortunately has been, just cosmetic damage to the front bumpers/grill, quite remarkable actually).
Friend was given the run around by his insurer/broker, some accident management company they referred him to, back to his insurer/broker, on to their underwriter who then said the other parties are disputing fault and nothing more has happened.
They told him who the red car is insured with, Churchill, so he then went down the route of claiming from them. They’ve ended up saying the black car is at fault so he needs to claim from them but cannot provide this parties insurance details.
Since black car driver was being abusive and the front of his car was smashed up he didn’t get this drivers details at the scene. Valuable lesson of what not to do. He’s now reluctantly getting a dash cam.
My friend is a busy tradesperson so can’t afford to sit on the phone all day and takes a few days to chase all these various calls up, so some delay from both ends of the process has resulted in this going on for 3-4 months.
What would you recommend he does? Is this the time when a decent accident management company or similar show their value? Any recommendations?
TIA.
