Hi im 19 and looking to get Honda Civic Type R as next step ive been driving Vauxhall Corsa Sxi 1.2 04 plate for over 1 year.I can buy the Type R second hand 04 plate ive seen for good price but Insurance cost a bomb £4934 just by myself. Im currently on my Dads Insurance with Norwich Union and he has over 9+ years protected no claims and i got a quote from confused.com and was £4500 with him im guessing it is because the car is 200bhp and they wont allow protected no claims with me on the insurance. So i ask is their any other Insurance companies i can try i tried Performance Direct but that was over £5000.

So realisticly am I going for car to early :o or can my dream be made thanks in advance. :)

Its been said before but i will say it again, and i appologise if this isn't the case cause its not 100% clear from your post, if the car is yours and your the main driver its insurance fraud getting the car under your dads name, if you have 1 years no claims and you want a CTR your going to have to pay the price, its as simple as that, its a quick car so the insurance is expensive.

The Corsa is in my Dads name and im and second driver no insurance fraud at all.

I can buy Type R no problem just insurance is very steep again i would try to get under my dads name and me second driver.

Thanks guys for your help i think its best i wait a few years then before i purchase one looks like i made a mess of going with my Dad name from start but it is cheap much cheaper then if i was to get it by myself back then when i bought it.

Looks like ill wait until im 21 and start insurance in my own name and take it from their oh well was worth a try.

I am 21 with 2 years NCB, and will be insuring a 200 BHP, insurance group 16 car for a mere £490.

(But its not a Civic Type R :()

So what car are you insuring and who is your insurance provider.?

Lol, sorry if i got your hopes up. Its an old Jag, 1991 3.2 XJ6. Only mentioned it because its exactly 200bhp and IG 16 aswell. Insurance is only cheap because of the non boyracer image and the fact that its only as fast as a 2.0 manual or 2.5 auto mondeo because it weighs almost 2 tons. (With Norwich btw)

Sure its not your style, but it suits me well and i'm loving it. So much car for the money...

Good luck in your hunt for a new vehicle though, possibly take a small jump up to a 1.6, 1.8 or 2.0 around the 110-150hp mark before going all the way up to the Type R

Cheers each to their own nice motor Jags :)

Explain to the insurance the situation exactly, some insurers will be fine with it and you could save yourself a lot of cash. You may have to ring around a bit. I was originally going to do this with my new car, but had to stump up the full £1,600 in the end as my Dad didn't want me wrapping his NCB round a tree .

Whatever you do, be sure that you don't hide anything from the insurers. If you do decided to insure it yourself, try Elephant.co.uk. They insured me on a 330d Sport at 22 with 0ncb and one claim.

Thanks for advice but ill probably build me no claims up and buy a Type R when im 21 or maybe a different car will see.
