I've read previously that naming older drivers on your policy can lower your quote, but truth be told, I've never paid that much attention as I didn't think the gains would be that significant. I've just run a quote that is a full £400 cheaper by virtue of adding my nan and my dad to the policy. Great news, but I'm not sure if I've got the year my nan was born right, and I know my dad has a complicated recent driving history that negates the benefit of adding him with everything declared.

Question:-

If you add other people to your policy with incomplete/innacurate details, is it 'insurance fronting' if they never drive the car?

OK, in your opinion, is it fraud to add someone to your policy with zero intention of ever letting them drive it?

no

I once tried to add my dad to see if it would drop the price..... it hiked it to twice the price..... now this is my dad who has an exemplery driving record and is class a1 police driver etc.. although adding the GF who had just passed halved it.. ???? go figure

I dont see the problem the OP has? Just put in the correct details.. As long as you're the main driver then it doesnt matter?

I usually add my mum onto my policy as there is a chance that she might use it maybe once a year and it brings my price down a little bit. Saved around £50 this year but when I used to live at home with both my parents on there it used to bring the price down by nearly £400! If you never intend to let these people drive the car it could be dodgy but unlikely the insurance co. will find out unless you add people that live miles away or somthing silly.

Anyone know what conditions insurance companies have regarding how much time someone uses the car to still be a named driver?

For example if I was to let my brother use my car for a few months while I'm away, can he still be a named driver or would he need to be the main driver instead?

It's something I've wondered about. My reasoning being if I add a fictitious character with a perfect license in the lowest risk group and all that, and it brings my policy down, is there a problem?

The fact is they will never drive the car so never be making a claim on the insurance where the facts would be looked at.

Obviously I've not done it, in case it does come back around and cause more problems, i just tried different combination of family members.

How can the insurance companys prove that you are doing X amount of miles on the car. If i put myself as a named driver on the policy and my dad as the main driver, but i am using the car all the time and i have a claim, how are they going to find out that i am fronting? I could just turn round and say i use the car occansionally, how would would they know any different?

Fronting is insuring the car in someone elses name and then driving it most of the time yourself.

The other way round it's fine - I saved £500 (!) on my insurance my naming my mum and dad as drivers - and they do move it around the drive occasionally :D

ive got my mam and dad on the policy, just on the off chance that my car may be the first in the drive and they take it out. Nothing to do with the fact it took 600 quid off your honour.
