what are your thoughts on this?

I'm about to buy a little run around for my fiancée, she is currently a provisional driver with her test booked next month. I'm unable to insure her on my car as it's deemed sports car.

I have a good 8 year NCD, quotes for insurance have been coming in around 200 quid with myself as policy holder, and her as main driver. With her as policy holder she's been getting quotes around 400 quid.

do we pay the higher insurance so she can get the NCD, or put it on mine for year and pray she doesn't crash, or take out a separate insurance for the car in my name.

Agreed - You don't want here taking you NCB away plus in the long run it could work out cheaper to build her NCB up

Get her own policy, she'll have to build up NCD one day - best to do it on a nice small cheap car.

*Says a man who's first car is a C-Class Mercedes-Benz :o

£400 is a good deal, I have just done exactly the same for my missus and it came to £650 (3rdPFT), If I have done it the other way it would have been 350, used multicar policy etc and it worked out to only cost me £200 more to get her own and start building up NCD.

Note, the insurance will go up a bit when she passes her test - be ready for that!
