My friend, had her car a 2000 honda civic 1.6 SE auto (IG 9) insured with admiral, she then wrote her car off. Her insurance policy was suspended until she got another car. Which she did a 2000 vuaxhall corsa 1.4 CDX auto (IG 7). She phoned the insurance company gave the new car details, reg number etc.. and after paying a admin fee of £14~ her insurance policy was reinstated. When she received the new insurance certificate.. they listed the car wrong as a 1.2 instead of a 1.4. On phoning back to the insurance to corrrect that, they say she has to pay £54~ more for insuring the car.. which i argued with.. how can a 1.4 corsa insurance group 7 be more expensive to insure than a 1.6 civic which is an group 9 car???
I have argued that fact for her and they will review the initial phone call she made to give them the vauxhall corsa. She is adamant that she told them that is a 1.4 and not 1.2.
Do you guys think that I am right that she should not have to pay more? Do i/she have a leg to stand on with the insurance company?
Thanks in advance :)

Because chavs love corsas, so on their database, an average corsa owner has more claims than an average civic owner.

Same reason my mondeo is cheaper to insure than a fiesta despite the engine size.

but surely a 1.2 which is more favoured with chavs/younger people would be more expensive than a 1.4??

Insurance follows logic that no common man may be allowed to understand - if someone does appear to be understanding it, it is only a matter of time before they have an "accident"

i just did a new quote online.. the corsa 1.4 auto is £38 cheaper to insure than the 1.6 auto civic

result: i stated to the phone operator that i wanted to speak to their manager... they went away and came back to say that they would review the initial phone made by friend and call back within 48 hours with a outcome..
They didn't call back so yesterday I called back, they reviewed the phone call and now will be refunding the extra £54.34 they charged :)
