Read your policy documentation.

Your GF's dad will/should know whether you're covered under his insurance, which IIRC is only the case if he has an 'anyone can drive my vehicle' option added to his policy.

Congratulations, you just drove without insurance.

You do not have insurance on other cars unless its specifically stated on your certificate of motor insurance.

Mason64, check your insurance documentation. I'd also suggest you contact your insurer for clarification - do not mention the incident at all.

If are covered, then fine - nothing to worry about. If you are not covered, do nothing. I suspect that the whole thing will go through without a single check of your insurance coverage at the time.

is an option for him to just say he was driving and i will pay him to pay for the fine? could that work at all?

Or could i get my g;fs dad to ask for a photo because am 99% sure i was wearing 1. i just cant remember i normally do but i do happen to forget the odd 1 or 2 times a month when driving down the road i think **** i havent got my belt on.

P.S - this was a Speed camera van only! so they must get you for that aswell!

my dads g.f got a letter today saying that.

he has to fill in the form to say if it was him or not. and they he will get a letter with a fine or i will depends what happens.

Why do they need to sort out the law? The law says you must be insured, it's up to you to check the terms of your insurance to make sure you have doc cover. Just being fully comp doesn't entitle you to drive other cars and afaik that's never been the case.
