How can some companies justify their pricing? I've been quoted £187 FC on my C2 by directline, yet norwich union, my current insurer for the last 5 years, want almost £400!

Sounds like someone's trying to extract the urine somewhat.

You've only just realised insurance companies like to take the ****??

BTW £187 FC is a fantastic price, that's about the cheapest regular insurance quote I've ever seen!

I was really surprised by how low directline's quote is. Ok, I'm 38, 19 years driving, over 5 years no claims, and I drive a 'girly' car, but even so.... still a really good quote. Methinks I'll be changing insurers this year.

£187 is not altogether supring seeing his criteria, my dad used to pay around £150FC on a small engined car (1.4) until he got his new beast.

£400 is just daylight robbery though for a 38yr old on a car like that, with 0NCB at 20 i am paying £409 for a golf gti with my gf as a named driver :p

Diamond, they always churn out by far the best quotes for me, and my gf. Part of the admiral group, but somehow cheaper than admiral themselves. :)

I found admiral to be REALLY cheap too, by far my lowest quote at 775 (next was over 1000). Sadly Diamond ain't gonna touch me cos I'm not of the fairer sex. Cheers!

Diamond had a ruling against them to force them into selling insurance to men :) There is gender selection now just like admiral. They basically (for me) give out identical quotes to admiral, but with about 10% off every time.

Examples:
BMW 540i, Admiral £1100, Diamond £1000
BMW 740i, Admiral £1200, Diamond £1050
Audi A8 4.2QS, Admiral £1300, Diamond £1100
My old car: MR2 GTS Turbo import with mods, Admiral £990, Diamond £900

Absolute beauties :) They seem to quote on near as damnit everything too, the only cars they seemingly wont quote on are M-series BMW's, Impreza Turbo's (image problem i guess - wont quote on even the slow turbo2000 model), AMG merc's, and certain imports such as Skyline's.

I'd definately urge anyone young to try them.

Well, it worked out as £890, so about 10% more than admiral I suppose

Ah well, the money goes to the same parent company in any case I suppose. Elephant were cheap too.

Elephant and diamond are both part of admiral. So all should in theory give out the same quotes roughly.

Ive always found elephant more expensive than admiral for me, and then diamond the cheapest of the lot.

I know Virgin and Tesco use the same provider, as their policy quote GUI is identical except colours, and actually yeah admiral diamond and elephant's are the same as each other like that.
