Just wondering....is there a set restriction on what young drivers can get insured on or it is the companies choice? Just wondering if its worth trying to get a quote on something bigger then my 1.6vtec (19, 0NCB)
Obviously it will be more expensive if it can be done tho....

The trick is to pick the car carefully. You will find that cars which are perceived as "boring" are very cheap to insure even if you pick the fast model with the massive engine.

Take something like the mercedes S600 for example. It is very cheap to insure thanks to an old man image, yet packs a 6.0 V12 under the bonnet. You will find the same with all marques.

hmm well my civic is 'old man' style according to parkers and i'm looking to go up an engine or 2 with another civic, but they are so high up in the groups....

edit - the vti is a group 16! doubt it'll happen :( :( :(

Groups dont really mean a lot, its all about the stats for the cars as far as i can see from getting quotes on probably hundreds of different vehicles.

Civic's are not good cars for insurance. You'd insure much better for the budget.

As I found out recently. I really am quite shocked at how cheap fast cars can be compared to the lesser models.

That's something else that suprised me actually.

I did a quote with no accidents, one as a non-fault and one as having a fault accident.

I think there was £100 between them all. Crazy really!

yeah but your 23 and going by most of the guys i work with theres a lot of fast cars that most people wont give you until 21 and then 25 or similar to that and me being 19 could cause a problem!

You'd be suprised, i insured a ~250bhp Toyota MR2 Turbo at 18 going on 19 without too much bother. I beleive a couple of other people on here had them too before they were 20.

As i said, pick carefully, insurance doesnt go on performance :)

can i ask how much that was costing you? i'm already paying 160 a month for my civic esi and dont mind if it goes a shade but nothing stupid like 250 a month i'd hope.

Paying insurance monthly is not a good idea as detailed in another thread. I paid it upfront and it was £1250 for 10 months, so monthly £125.

You really cannot compare directly like this as there are so many factors which affect insurance premiums.

 That seems a lot. Mines £62 a month! Yes my car is slower but it was only like £75 for the 2.0 Focus.

back in the days when i were a lad,

I insured a fiesta RS Turbo day after i passed my test uprated cam and turbo declared along with alloys and suspension

i was gutted to be paying a stupidly high 600 a year fully comp.

damn didnt realise how well off i was ;)

now me and Mrs Sormicoft have a chipped audi A4 Tdi estate insured for 250 fully comp

age and years driving ?

as i said, i realllllly like civics......cant really think of much else i'd like that again to me wouldn't cost me a large chuck of change to insure
