a few tips to get lower insurance if you didnt already know them.

put an older driver as your 2nd driver. my mother has been a named driver on my policy for the last 4 years and still knocks quotes down quite a lot. i've also started adding my dad and he knocks off about £20.

(this is not fronting as im the main driver, my folks are just named drivers on my policy)

excess. only add what excess you can afford to lose if you do crash

do you drive another car?. say yes. if you sometimes drive a works van or a friends car.

dont lie about obvious modifications because they dont actually cost that much to insure and if you dont state them and have a crash it could void your policy.

shop around, one of the best things you can do is keep phoning around stating previous quotes and they'll try to beat it.

never accept a renewal price, even if you want to stay with your current insurer ring up and cancel, nearer the date make a new quote and you'll get a cheaper price.

tell them your part of an owners forum/group

hope this helps at least someone. i know some are obvious points but hopfully will help people. if anyone else has tips please post.

Phil.

I got a tip, stop telling lies about your job, you might need to claim one day :)

Isn't it if you go over your stated mileage it voids your policy or something?

Hard to prove though isnt it, but whats the point in lieing, he only does 7k private anyway so hes saved 4 quid telling them its only 2.

Right, so you suggest:

Job: in my last job i was a production planner and realised when i moved job (to binman) they put my insurance up £100. so i tell them im a production engineer and have been for the last 5 years lol and my quote drops

Lying

annual millage. no one really checks your miles, so i tend to put 2-3k a year dispite doing more like 7-8k. if anyone asks ill say. my dad drives the car downsouth now and again. they can't do you as your policy is for YOUR annual miles

Lying Again

Yer - that's a good plan.
Lie on an insurance proposal - sounds like a sure fire way of getting into an insurance dispute once you actually have to make a claim.

Also cannot agree with:

remove windscreen cover. if i remember correctly windscreen cover through bell for example costs £30. yet if you need anything done to your windscreen it will cost you £50 outside your excess. just a big rip off.

With the cover all repairs are FOC.
If you need a new windscreen you get it for usually £50.
Do you know how much it actually costs to buy a new windscreen?
All for the sake of saving £20 - £30.

more like £40

Ok 40, and believe me the first big claim you have all these little lies will haunt you, its a stupid saving.

Jamaicans have an excellent saying for this it goes "penny wise, pound fool"

And when they ask to look at the MOT certificates which record the mileage each year...

they only ask to see your current MOT cert. not previous ones. only states 1 mileage.

also. nowadays most insurers cover windscreens as standard with £75ish excess so ill edit that one out.

Two problems here.

Firstly the crap advice and secondly the assumption the forum members here are stupid enough to actually take it on board.

Anyone with your current MOT certificate can look up the history on line.

Handy hint: don't advocate fraud if you don't know what you are talking about.

Seems crazy to me saving a few £ by lying to an insurance firm, at the risk of invalidating your insurance?

If you cause a 6 car pileup, and a bill for quarter of a million quid in repairs rest assured the insurance company will check what job you do and how far you drive to avoid paying out if you've lied!

Just tried putting my mother on my renewal policy and adding access to other cars, I do work for Honda after all:D, it knocked £70 of the price!!!!
