Quick question.

What insurance cover do you have?

My renewal is up, from doing some searches on compare sites I can either get:

Fully comp: £560 with £750 excess
TPFT: £200 with £500 excess(really? on TPFT??)

It's fair to say if I chuck the bike i'll do less than £750, or considerably more, there isn't really any inbetween.

What would you choose, and why?</Cilla>

£750 excess!!!!!:eek::eek:

shop around, chances are youll get it a lot cheaper,my renewal came through few weeks back for £144 tpft on an 04 zx10r protected no claims and legal cover

with bennetts, thats with £200 excess and 9+yr no claims though

Depends on the bike. If its not worth over 4 or 5k then TPFT. Its just not worth claiming on and losing NCB unless its a newish bike.

That's what I wanted to know, save £300 a year over fully comp with TPFT or go fully comp, i've been TPFT for 2 years now anyway, so far so good *fingers crossed*

Go with Bike Devil Insurance. Amazing company, £0 excess (no option for excess). Brilliant company, and fairly cheap!

Depends on the bike.

This really, depends what the bike is worth

My R6 costs £450 TPF&T with bikedevil, think the excess was around the £500 mark. They are just a spin off of MCE. Fully comp was around £750 for me :(

If you're gonna crash just do it on your own and either do a small amount of damage you can fix yourself or do like my mate recently and do it properly by smashing your bike in half ;)

I just did a few price checks and Bike devils fully comp was £391 with £1050 excess, I got a call literally 1 minute after I did the quote and asked him about it and he said if the excess in your accident is over £1050 you get it back, otherwise no. Seems bit of a marketing scam really unless I'm missing something?

The cheapest excess I could get was £550 on both TPF&T and Fully comp

Eh? Really? I had 2 bikes with them, both £0 excess and VERY cheap?

Age and any NCB?

From another forum

Just a heads up. I had a call from MCE yesterday to discuss my existing insurance policy. My policy is with Bike Devil (a sister company of MCE) and is about half way through the term. Now, when I took the policy out, it was under a 'No Excess' policy, so basically, in the event of a claim, I have no excess to pay. Well, apparently this has been mis-sold. What they didn't explain was that you have a hidden compulsory excess of £500 and a voluntary £500 and in the event of a claim, you then have to claim again to have the excess repaid.

So, the result of the call was that the voluntary excess has been removed at no cost and a £15 good will gesture is to be sent to me, but, and this is a BIG 'but', in the event of a claim of under £500 (which is the compulsory excess) I am NOT able to claim it back. I did pay a little bit more on my premium to have a 'No Excess' policy which was incorrectly advertised and sold, so if any of you have the same insurance I'd definitely recommend a call to your insurer.

so does that mean if somebody nicks my bike and i have done everything in my power to stop it (locked garage chain anchor etc) then i would still need to pay out my excess?!

and if so can that then be claimed back from the company who deal with claims due to loss from crime?

Yes, exactly the same as if you had fully comprehensive insurance. Doubt it can be claimed back, you agreed to the excess when you agreed to the insurance contract.

insurance is different for everyone, i have a great price for my 10r but excess is almost £1k... I could get a lower excess but would pay a lot more up front, it's the risk we take I guess!
