I passed my driving test in April last year, aged 23. I'm now 24 and have nearly got a year's trouble free driving under my belt, however my insurance is really eating into my money.

Got myself a V reg 1.8 Ltr Mondeo and the insurance on it is £90 per month under my girlfriends name with Diamond!

Are there any other insurance companies who could maybe offer me a better deal? I've been on confused.com but it hasn't really thrown anything good up.

I remember my driving instructor saying that there were certain insurance companies which give u cheaper insurance if you pass first time or get under a certain number of minors in your test.

Any ideas on how to get out of this situation. The Mondeo drinks petrol like nobodies business compared to the megane my girlfriend has and the insurance is stupid. I'm seriously considering flogging the mondeo and getting a metro :(

Whilst this might be annoying in that you always find yourself filling it up, if you calculate the amount you spend a year on petrol, and then do the same for something with a smaller engine, you'll find yourself saving a few hundred quid a year at the very most.

I always seem to find bell direct give me the best quotes, but it's down to where you life etc. I live in the highest rated post code so I'm not to bad, check the sticky for your area :)

Edit: Might wanna get that insurance in your name too, you'll wish you did come renewal.

On its own the petrol issue doesn't bother me too much at all. I love the power of my mondy compared to the other cars I've driven (Astra, Megane and Corsa).

It is the combination of the two, insurance being the critical issue at £90 a month! It it was £50-60 a month I'd be ok :(
