Right just a general question about if i should change policy type or not

I am paying 1300 ish a year for insurance for third party fire and theft im only 19 and drive a 1.7 cdti astra sports hatch. I have to put my private plates back on shortly as its a new car so when i do that i incur a fee of 17.50 and i usually try declare any changes at same time so i only pay once.

The increase to fully comp is 110 which includes that 17.50 fee so its 90 ish really.. the cars worth 5000 market value also

Is it worth changing it ? Will they let me go to fully comp mid way through the year also? Has anybody done this

Im with admiral if thats any help, Cheers

depends on what your excess would be? depends on whether you need the different benefit of comp over TPFT?

level of cover is an individual thing in my opinion. if it was a change you were looking to make anyway then doing it all at once makes sense, if your just changing cover because of the 17.50 charge you can save yourself £90 and stick to TPFT

Well im going to be using the car a lot more as iv had this car specifically for motorway driving for my job. So it seems to make sense to cover myself abit more?

Going to full comp for an extra £110 is definitely worth it. Not only are you getting the benefit of being full comp insured but you'll start accumulating no claims bonus.

I almost feel I'm missing something. As to whether you can change part way through the year I'm unsure, best way is to ring as ask. I'm sure you'll be able to cancel your current policy and start a new one.

I earned NCB while TPFT.

I was only TPFT on a <£500 car. £100 more for FC? £5000 car? Look at it this way, are you more likely than not to have a fault claim on your car over the next 50 years? Oversimplification it may be, but for most people the answer would be yes. Do it.

I'm not sure i would cover a car worth £5k with only TPFT! Especially if it is only £100 more

I have too but it wasn't transferable between companies, by and large you only get proper NCB being full comp insured.

When did this happen? I've certainly never heard of it before. I personally used tpft until it was cheaper to insure fully comp as the cost of making a claim would have been worth more than the car.

May differ between insurers but I was only TPFT for years, built up NCB, when I came to getting fully comp they said I could get x years NCB with them or leave - but would then have no NCB as it was not transferable. This may have changed now as it was 2 years ago but as far as I'm aware you need to be fully comp insured to build NCB that will stay with you if you move insurers.
