Who do people recommend for kit insurance these days? I've been with Eversure for a couple of years but renewal is coming up (and kit has changed) so wondering if I should be looking elsewhere?

I was thinking the exact same thing this week. This time last year someone recommended a company which had very good prices however I’d already purchased elsewhere by that stage.
Annoyingly, I can’t for the life of me recall the name of said company.

What I’ve usually ended up doing is just adding my gear onto our home insurance. I normally contribute a portion of it from my own “funds” and our household budget takes care of the rest.

MOST years this has worked out cheaper than having two separate policies and this year appears to be no different although the Buildings element of home insurance has risen significantly - at least here in NI.

Build it into your home insurance, your home policy will have an options to insurance stuff away from the home which is what I do and make sure you are covered for accidental.
All my gear is insured under my home policy, I have every piece of equipment itemised and with receipts and photographic evidence of ownership in the case the I need to claim and prove ownership. It made negligble difference to the overall policy cost.

My one and only claim a few years ago is when my strap clasp broke and my old Sony A99 II and Zeiss 24-70 f2.8 took a swim in a river, they paid out within weeks and without any fuss.

Thanks, will look into the home insurance angle again although that was renewed in December so would be a mid-term change if they allow it.

The issue I generally had with using home insurance before was lack of cover for equipment left in vehicles.
